Make a Splash at Karst Farm Park!

Posted in: Family Fun Comments

Enjoy this guest blog from our Director of Tourism, Julie Warren:

I had a chance to check out the new splash pad at Karst Farm Park with my daughter, Ellie (almost two years old) over the July 4th weekend. Let me tell you, the splash pad is awesome!  There are at least a dozen water features with lots of space in between for kids to run and goof around. Most of the features are tall and drip water in a small or moderate amount (won't knock you or your kiddie down), but there are also a couple that shoot water up from the ground, and a couple of moveable sprays that kids can use to spray their unsuspecting and clothed parents (like me). It was an absolute blast, and the adjoining playground is just as cool. It's massive, with apparatuses for little ones and bigger kids. There are shaded benches in each area and cubbies to keep your stuff dry. And best of all, it's free!

There are a couple of minor downsides though, so I'll mention them only so you can be prepared. The splash pad has a concrete floor, so it can be rough on little ones' knees if they fall. We wore water shoes so it wasn't so hard on our feet. It was really hot when we visited and the playground equipment was extremely hot to the touch, though some areas had shade.

Overall, it was a great place to spend the afternoon and play, and I highly recommend it. Even though we went on a holiday weekend, and I expected it to be extremely busy, it was fine. There were several families there, but it's a large space and we had plenty of room to play. (I suspect that many people still don't know about the splash pad or can't find it, as it's at the very, VERY back of the park. It's our little secret for now.) A snack stand was set up just outside the entrance with some really delicious sno-cones. I hadn't had one in years, and it was a perfect way to end the day.
