Tom Crean is the real deal. His genuine excitement and joy about being part of Indiana Basketball is so awesome to watch. I hope more people start showing up for games. The last two had an announced attendance of approx. 13,000 and although I am afraid of more games like last night, (the lady sitting next to me said she was too old for the heart stopping fight to the buzzer win) it will be worth it to see how this team pulls together and improves. At the end of the game he got a microphone and thanked the crowd for being the 6th player and helping the team pull off a victory over IUPUI. Reminded me of another great coach that would sometimes do that . . . .
Despite a struggling economy, Indiana University students showed their generous spirit at IU's 18th annual dance marathon this past weekend. IU Dance Marathon, which began in 1991 in honor of Ryan White, an AIDS activist and Riley Hospital for Children patient who died of AIDS in 1990, raised a record $1.37 million to benefit the Ryan White Infectious Disease Center at Riley Hospital for Children. Way to go IU students!!
The Lilly Library announced that Deborah Meier, considered the founder of the small schools movement in the U.S., will donate her personal papers to the library's collection. Breon Mitchell, director of the Lilly Library, said "Deborah Meier's papers will provide invaluable insights into the nature and history of the modern small schools movement in America." Meier is a leading voice in education reform. Her ideas have influenced schools heavily across the country, including Bloomington's Harmony Education Center, where she is a senior advisor for new initiatives. Meier explained that her work with Harmony and familiarity with the reputation of the Lilly Library made the decision to store her papers here a logical choice. "Because of my work with Harmony School, I thought that makes it somewhat more likely that they would be used by the people that will keep them."
Campus will start to quiet down as many students leave or prepare to leave for Thanksgiving break next week.
