Eight galleries in downtown Bloomington, conveniently located within walking distance of one another, invite you to stroll the Downtown GalleryWalk. You'll find a wealth of artwork in eight distinct galleries whose atmospheres range from sophisticated to funky. Whatever your taste in fine art and craft, you're sure to find something you love during your Downtown GalleryWalk.
Four times a year, the Downtown GalleryWalk sponsors Friday night events and receptions to highlight new exhibits by local and regional artists. As you enjoy the Downtown GalleryWalk, don't miss the opportunity to experience the many restaurants, shops, theaters and museums that make Bloomington a must-visit cultural destination!
2007 Evening Receptions: April 6, July 6, October 5 and December 7, from 5 to 8 pm.
1. Bellevue Gallery - 107 W. 9th St., 812.355.9207 Hours: Daily 9 am to 5 pm; gallery member present to answer questions on Saturdays from 3-6 pm. A member directed cooperative fine art gallery exhibiting local, regional and emerging artists for over 19 years. Art may be viewed daily. Located in the lobby of the Bloomington Playwrights Project.
2. By Hand Gallery - 109 Fountain Square Mall, 812.334.3255. Hours: Mon. - Sat., 10 am to 5:30 pm. email Located inside Fountain Square Mall, By Hand Gallery is a 29-year-old fine crafts cooperative showing work by local, regional and national artists with Bloomington connections. Featuring jewelry, pottery, knitting, weaving, baskets, wood, glass, photography, paintings and more.
3. Gallery North on the Square - The Wicks Building, 116 W. 6th Street, 812.339.5729. Hours: Wed. - Sat., 11 am to 6 pm or by appointment. A fine art gallery on the north side of the courthouse square featuring the work of local nd regional artists with frequently changing exhibits in watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings, sculpture, photography and other media. Gallery North hosts guest artists and special exhibits throughout the year.
4. John Waldron Arts Center Galleries & Gallery Shop - 122 S. Walnut Street, 812.3343.3100. Hours: Mon. - Fri., 11 am to 5 pm; Sat. 11 am to 3 pm. email The John Waldron Arts Center serves as Bloomington's community arts venue. The gallery spaces feature over two dozen exhibits annually of fine and contemporary art and craft from local and regional artists. The Gallery Shop offers an eclectic collection of art, craft, books and music.
5. Prima Gallery - 109 E. 6th Street, 812.336.0564. Hours: Tues. - Sat., 11 am to 6 pm, or by appointment. email Continuing in the tradition of "The Gallery," founded in 1968, Prima represents the work of local, regional and national artists. Exhibiting ceramics, painting, photography, prints, sculpture and more. Prima features rotating two-person exhibitions and several larger group shows each year.
6. Textillery Gallery - Inside the Buskirk-Chumley Theater at 114 E. Kirkwood Avenue. 812.323.3020. Hours: Mon. - Sat., 9 am to 5 pm. The Textillery Gallery strives to reveal the rich diversity of local and regional art through exhibits which include Indiana folk artists, self-taught artists and emerging and established artists. Located on the second floor of the Buskirk-Chumley Theater; accessible through Gatsby's Theater Cafe and the Sunrise Box Office.
7. tutto bene GALLERY - 213 S. Rogers Street, 812.330.0193 or 812.330.1060. Hours: Tues. - Sun., 11:30 am to 8 pm or by appointment. email A unique experience, in a landmark 1920's warehouse, tutto bene is located in the historic Prospect Hill neighborhood. The gallery features sculpture, photography and mixed media paintings by local, regional and international artists. VIsit the tutto bene wine cafe for libation, live music and more art.
8. Wandering Turtle Art Gallery & Gifts - 224 N. College Avenue, 812.330.1990. Hours: Mon. - Thurs., 10 am to 7 pm; Fri. & Sat. 9:30 am to 8 pm; Sun. 11 am to 5 pm. email Featuring multi-media artwork and hand-crafted gifts from over 75 local and regional artists. Also offering Bloomington books, cards and apparel, local and world music, jewelry, ceramics, home accessories, museum reproductions and a great selection of fair-trade, internationally handcrafted products.
