Distinctive both for its mid-1800s architectural style and its historical significance in Monroe County, the Hinkle-Garton Farmstead was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. The property spans over 11 acres, with two homes, four farm outbuildings, and extensive grounds. The landscape is also an important historical resource, as are household and farming artifacts & materials representing three generations of the Hinkle and Garton families.

Operated by Bloomington Restorations, Inc. (BRI), a private, non-profit membership organization for historic preservation, the farmstead serves as an educational resource, hosting special events, exhibits, and programs throughout the year. The Hinkle-Garton Farmstead also usually has a museum open day on the last Saturday of each month.
