Established in 1981 as a repository of films and related materials by and about African Americans, which has since been updated to include Africa and its Diaspora, the Black Film Center & Archive houses films that have a substantial participation of Black writers, actors, producers, directors, musicians, and consultants, as well as individuals who depict some aspect of the Black experience. The BFCA sponsors film screenings, lectures, and other events throughout the year.
