2011 TURBO Champions Cup Set For Bloomington, Indiana This November


Bloomington, IN - The 2011 USA Water Polo TURBO Champions Cup, the premier National Championship for the 14U age group, is set for the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana this November 4-7. In conjunction with the Hoosier Sports Corporation, Indiana University, and the Midwest Zone this National Championship returns to its roots in the Midwest Zone after a departure in 2010.


Formerly known as the Speedo Cup, the event features qualifying teams from all 11 USA Water Polo zones and has been a showcase for rising talent in the United States for over 20 years. Three-time Olympians Tony Azevedo and Brenda Villa are among many athletes that got started in water polo at the TURBO Champions Cup and that tradition will continue in 2011.


Qualifications will take place this fall across the country with official participants and schedule information released in October. Close to 400 athletes will travel from all over the country to compete in the National Championship, approximately 300 spectators will attend the event each day. The event is expected to have an estimated economic impact of $170,800 on the Bloomington area.
