Bloomington Convention & Visitors Bureau Achieves Destination Marketing Accreditation

(Bloomington, Indiana) - The Bloomington Convention & Visitors Bureau announced today that it has once again been awarded accreditation by the Washington, DC based Destination Marketing Association International.  This accreditation program for destination marketing organizations covers a wide variety of standards including governance, finance, management, human resources, technology, visitor services, group services, sales, communications, membership, brand management, destination development, research/market intelligence, innovation and stakeholder relationships.

There are currently 125 accredited bureaus across the country and they must reapply every four years to keep that designation.  "We are quite pleased to be recognized in the destination marketing community for providing outstanding services in accordance with international standards and benchmarks in this field," said Mike McAfee, Executive Director of the Bloomington Convention & Visitors Bureau.  "Adhering to these standards helps us gain credibility with clients and stakeholders and more importantly, deliver on our promise to visitors that Bloomington/Monroe County is a great place to visit and they will have a wonderful experience here."

Two bureau employees were also honored by Destination Marketing Association International for recent achievements.  Erin Erdmann, Convention Sales and Travel Media Manager, was a "30 Under 30" winner, which singles out the 30 best up-and-comers in the nation's destination marketing industry under the age of 30 for innovation, fresh ideas, and creativity.  Mike McAfee graduated from Destination Marketing Association's Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) program.  Recognized by the destination marketing industry as its highest educational achievement, CDME is an advanced educational program focusing on vision, leadership, productivity and the implementation of business strategies.

The mission of the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention & Visitors Bureau is to actively promote the area through targeted and industry partnered strategies resulting in increased visitor spending and enhanced community economic well-being and resident quality of life.  Visitors spend $280 million annually in Monroe County and over 4,000 people are employed in the area's visitor industry.

"We are on pace for a record year.  Key measurements we monitor such as market wide hotel occupancy and the number of people using our website are at the highest levels they have ever been and the busiest months in the fall are yet to come.  We need more hotel rooms, more attractions and more space to hold groups.  Bloomington is the best destination in Indiana and we are lucky to call it home.  Everyone here at the Convention & Visitors Bureau genuinely feels that way," stated McAfee.
