Bloomington, IN - Visit Bloomington is thrilled to welcome the 2015 Amateur Athletic Union 5th Grade Girls' National Basketball Championships to Bloomington beginning Monday, June 22 at Twin Lakes Recreation Center and continuing through Saturday, June 27.

47 competing AAU teams from 17 different states around the country, including Bloomington's Team Blaze, will compete in two divisions over the five-day tournament. Pool play games are Tuesday-Wednesday at Twin Lakes Recreation Center beginning daily at 9:00 AM. Tournament play runs Thursday-Saturday at Twin Lakes Recreation Center with the final two championship games for both divisions being held at Bloomington North High School on Saturday.

"We began pursuing this event in 2012 so it's been a long time in the making. We thank Team Blaze for their partnership, Bloomington Parks & Recreation for their event help and of course, AAU for investing in Bloomington," said Visit Bloomington Director, Mike McAfee. Visit Bloomington has hosted basketball, track and field, diving, wrestling and other AAU events in recent years.

The event is open to the public. Admission is $12 for an adult daily pass, $10 for daily youth (6-14) and children under five are free. An event pass good for the entire tournament is $40 for adult and $30 for youth. Twin Lakes is located at 1700 W. Bloomfield Road and Bloomington North High School at 3901 N. Kinser Pike both in Bloomington, Indiana.

McAfee added, "Producing this event is a big deal for us. We love that most of the games are played Tuesday-Friday as one of our priority goals is more weekday tourism business. Plus we know girls' sports teams travel with more family members and that means more visitors. We estimate 1,410 participants and attendees to be here for the event directly spending approximately $400,000 on hotels, food, retail and entertainment while they are here. We are the basketball town in Indiana, this event is a fantastic fit for us and we are fortunate to have it here."
