Bloomington to Host 2009 AAU Girls’ Super Regional Tournament

The March 20-22 event is expected to bring more than 30 teams to the Bloomington area.

Bloomington – The Hoosier Sports Corp is pleased to announce that Bloomington has once again been chosen to host one of the many Girls’ Basketball Super Regional events that will be held across the nation. These Super Regional events are held to qualify teams for the AAU Girls’ National Tournament. The Bloomington Super Regional is scheduled to be held March 20-22 and is expected to bring between 30 and 40 teams between the ages of eight and 16 to the Bloomington area.

The Hoosier Sports Corp is the sports marketing arm of the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Director of Sports Development, Eric Marvin is excited to welcome this event back to the Bloomington area. “We are very pleased that this is the sixth straight year that Bloomington has been awarded a Girls’ Super Regional event through AAU. The city enjoys a reputation with AAU officials as an excellent host for this event, which provides opportunities for girls to compete and develop their basketball skills while at the same time providing an economic benefit to the Bloomington community.”

The AAU Girls’ Super Regional will be held at the Bloomington SportsPlex and is expected to draw a number of teams from throughout Indiana and the surrounding states. With 12 players per team, this event is expected to bring a minimum of 360 players to the area, not including coaches, parents and spectators. Based on past event experience, the Hoosier Sports Corp estimates that this year’s event will bring an economic impact of more than $300,000 to the Bloomington community.
