Bloomington Welcomes 2008 Psi Iota Xi State Convention

Members from nearly 120 chapters around the state will travel to Bloomington for this annual event, scheduled for April 26th at the Convention Center.

Bloomington, Ind. – Bloomington is gearing up to welcome the annual meeting of Psi Iota Xi on April 26th. The event, scheduled to take place at the Bloomington Convention Center, will bring up to 400 attendees representing nearly 120 local Psi Iota Xi chapters across Indiana. Psi Iota Xi’s local chapters and state organization combine to provide over $1 million in contributions each year to speech, hearing, music and literacy organizations.

The theme for this year’s event is No “PAYNE” – No “GAIN” Helping Those Less Fortunate About Us, a clever play on words using the current State President, Sharon Payne, from the Gamma Rho Chapter of the organization, located in Linton, Indiana. Of the group’s charitable contributions, Payne says “There is much pain in the world, but Psi Iota Xi is always there to help. By the commitment, dedication and determination of each Psi Ote members, we accept the pain of challenge. Through hard work, time, talents and energy our members’ financial support of local projects, communities and the State Association, we have become part of the remedy to help alleviate some of that pain. Without pain there is no gain. The Psi Iota Xi Organization has gained much needed funding for surgeries, cleft palate research, speech and hearing needs as well as important connections, such as with Riley Hospital for Children.

The group will bring nearly $50,000 to the Bloomington area in economic impact and the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to welcome them to our city. “Members from all over the state will convene in Bloomington, many arriving the night before to enjoy our lovely city and explore the downtown area. These are women that volunteer and donate generously to several charitable causes, so it’s definitely an honor to have them meet in our city,” says Director of Convention Sales and Services Julie Warren.
