Visit Bloomington Announces 2017 Special Event Grant Program

$40,000 in marketing funds will be available for Bloomington-area festivals or events set to take place in 2017.

Bloomington - Visit Bloomington is pleased to announce the continuation of a successful grant program that will provide marketing funds to Bloomington-area festivals and events. The program supports marketing efforts that help bring visitors to the area and create a positive economic impact. The 2017 guidelines and application form are available on

Eligible events must be a well-defined, tourism-oriented festival or event within Monroe County and scheduled to take place between January 1 and December 31, 2017. Completed applications will be accepted beginning March 23, 2016 through July 1, 2016 at 5pm.

Grant funds may be used for marketing the event through advertising placed outside the Bloomington area, the production of promotional pieces to be distributed outside the area, event website development, and graphic design costs associated with marketing projects. The maximum funding level for any single event is $5,000. To be considered for grant funding, events must be held within the boundaries of Monroe County, must be open to the general public, and must show potential to draw visitors from outside the Monroe County area.

"Many area events are able to reach local audiences but struggle to reach potential audiences outside of the immediate area," says Julie Warren, Director of Tourism at Visit Bloomington. "These grant funds provide an opportunity for events to expand their reach and bring visitors to their event and our community."
