Bicentennial Kickoff Celebration: December 31, 2017

The City of Bloomington kicks off its bicentennial anniversary year with a community-wide celebration of our city’s history.  Everyone who loves Bloomington is invited to the event, where entertainment by DJ The Dance Machine, and roving caricature artist Rock Da Mullet will keep the party hopping!  Delight in signature “mock” tails and hors-d'oeuvres, commemorate the occasion in the bicentennial photo booth and drop a coin in the wishing fountain to usher in the New Year, and the next 100 years, with hopes and wishes for Bloomington and its residents.

The community is invited to the Monroe County Courthouse for the opening celebration of the 2018 Monroe County Bicentennial.  A program will include comments from James Madison, on the history of Monroe County, some of the first families from Monroe County will be in attendance, and there will be a presentation on how the whole community worked together to preserve our beautiful Courthouse. Exhibits, children’s activities, refreshments and live musical entertainment will round out this community celebration.  Visitors are also invited to the Monroe County History Center, 202 E. Sixth Street, to enjoy a performance by Pianist, Craig Brenner, at the conclusion of the Courthouse event. (inclement weather date: Jan. 21)
