October is arguably one of the most gorgeous months in Bloomington. The leaves change from green to every fiery, vibrant color you can imagine. Cooler temperatures lead to thrilling college sports and cozy campfires, and it's the perfect time to spend the days outside and the nights at one of Bloomington's many arts and culture venues. To help you plan your next trip, here are some events you'll remember for years to come.

Gallery Walk in downtown Bloomington

Gallery Walk - October 3

Several local galleries -- conveniently located within walking distance of one another downtown -- invite you to discover their unique art collections at this bi-monthly event. On October 3 starting at 5:00 pm, take a stroll downtown and come on in to galleries featuring a wide variety of visual arts, by artists ranging from local to international.

Byron Bowers at the Comedy Attic - October 9-11

It's been a big year for Byron- he was asked to tour with one of the living legends of comedy, Dave Chappelle. So far in 2014, Byron has appeared on The Pete Holmes Show, Adam Devine's House Party and was a regular on the second season of The Eric Andre Show on Adult Swim. He's also a regular at the top comedy venues across Los Angeles.

If you like a bicycling challenge that includes entertainment and fellowship with more than 5,000 cyclists from over 40 states and several foreign countries, the Hilly is for you.

Great Glass Pumpkin Patch - October 11

When you head downtown on Saturday, October 11, you can't miss the hundreds of handmade glass pumpkins covering the Monroe County Courthouse lawn. All of the pumpkins -- now a staple of many an art lover's collection -- are created by members of the Bloomington Creative Glass Center. Come enjoy this colorful fall event celebrating one of the season's most iconic items, and maybe go home with one or more!

BCT Presents Carrie Newcomer - October 11

Newcomer, a Bloomington-based singer-songwriter who travels the world with her music, released a new album in April entitled A Permeable Life. On this album, her signature deep voice takes on a quiet conversational tone, close and intimate. She will be accompanied only by piano at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater at this intimate concert featuring songs from her new album and old favorites.


IU Homecoming - October 16-18

Homecoming at IU Bloomington is one of the best times to return to campus and to celebrate Indiana University. This year's festivities take place October 16-18. Each fall, hundreds of alumni come home to Bloomington to relive college memories with familiar faces and places. With so much going on, it's hard to stay out of the action!

For more than two decades, this Television Hall of Fame inductee's performances have never failed to amuse his audiences, regardless of their age or station, and because of which, he has become one of the most loved stand-up comedians-with a tongue-in-cheek humor that is warm, relatable, and playfully pokes fun at pop culture and current events.

King Oedipus - October 17-25

This play is a modern adaptation of the Oedipus myth. Are we fated to succeed or fail? Or do our decisions, good and bad, lead us to our destination? Come see this new telling by up-and-coming playwright Kelly Lusk, where wooden swords kill and women transform into sphinxes.


M. Butterfly - October 24-25

Inspired by Puccini's Madama Butterfly, M. Butterfly weaves a dark tale of intrigue and deception as French civil servant Rene Gallimard falls for the beautiful Peking Opera diva Song Liling. Produced by the IU Theatre
