Black Violin at the BCT
Trust us, this upcoming show at the Buskirk Chumley Theater is one you do NOT want to miss, no matter what your musical perferences are. Black Violin blends classical, hip-hop, rock, R&B and bluegrass music together into an unique - and amazing - sound. Black Violin is made up of classically trained musicians, Wilner "Wil B" Baptiste and Kevin "Kev Marcus" Sylvester, along with their band, featuring ace turntable whiz DJTK (Dwayne Dayal, drummer Beatdown (Jermain McQueen) and cellist Joe Cello (Joseph Valbrun). They have collaborated with popular and diverse artists including P. Diddy, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Aretha Franklin and The Eagles.
Don't take our word for it though - here's what other people think:
Black Violin was voted one of the Top 5 New Bands at South By Southwest.
The New York Times says:
"Black Violin works hard, but makes it all look like play... Sometimes they play with the intense seriousness of orchestral soloists; at others they fiddle as if at a hoedown; at still others they strum the violin and viola like guitars."
Executive Director of the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, Danielle McClelland, says:
"I've been booking bands for the Buskirk-Chumley Theater for a while now, and paying close attention to music for decades. Sometimes, I can get a bit jaded. Bored. Lose the sense of intimacy and energy and hope a really good group can bring you. But then an email comes in from an long time agent friend with the subject line "WOW" and everything about why I do what I do comes into focus.
Black Violin is one of the most exciting groups I've seen in a long time. They're doing something new with great skill and even bigger heart. The audiences at SXSW this year voted them in their top five favorites out of literally hundreds of bands. They made me get up out of my seat and throw my hands in the air...
I know you've never heard of them. I know I generally just let you make your own decision about who you want to see at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. But in this case, I'm telling you. Get your Black Violin tickets today. I promise, they'll blow your socks off."
So... what are you waiting for? Black Violin will perform at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on Saturday, October 12 at 8 pm. Special ticket prices are available for college and high school students - only $10! Get your tickets now!
