IU Summer Theatre is a Dream

What's my favorite play? Without a doubt it would have to be Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, so I jumped at the chance to watch the dress rehearsal of IU Summer Theatre's production of it! I like to think of it as one of the first romantic comedies, with some fantasy and fairies mixed in. I love watching shows in the Wells-Metz Theatre, which is in the round. You get a more stripped-down, simplified performance that really relies on the actors and some key props to set the scene.

I really enjoyed their modern, present-day interpretation of the play and that they kept the Shakespearean language. My favorite character was probably the actress who plays Puck, she was hilarious and stole the scene every time she was on stage! The best part though is the play within a play, "Pyramus and Thisby", that had us rolling in our seats laughing.

You can see A Midsummer's Nights Dream now through July 23rd, and see IU Summer Theatre's production of Sense and Sensibility during the same time frame. Later this summer, take the family to see You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, July 29-August 14. Take a look at the full schedule to plan your visit.
