Little 500 Weekend -- April 24-25

Categories: Outdoors, Indiana University

The Little 500 is one of the most unique sporting events in the country. Teams of four ride laps around a quarter-mile cinder track and exchange their bike to a teammate once too tired to continue. The race places fraternities and sororities, residence halls and independent teams in a battle for the ultimate bragging rights of Little 500 winner. Concentration and competition is fierce—in recent years the winners are often determined in the final 100 yards and the final tenths of a second.

I remember my junior year MTV was in town and John Mellencamp was giving away a Pink House.  I begged all my roommates to fill out hundreds of postcards that I sent in for the drawing to win the house.  Didn't win, but it sure was a fun weekend.
