The Taste of B-town
Categories: Arts & Culture
Another summer has begun and another Taste of Bloomington has gone by. If you've never been to this B-town tradition and its sister festival, Arts Fair on the Square, you've got to put it on your calendar for 2009!
Traditionally held the Saturday after Father's Day, this is truly one of my favorite days to be in Bloomington. The day begins with Arts Fair on the Square, sponsored by the Bloomington Area Arts Council. Arts Fair takes place on the courthouse lawn in downtown Bloomington, beginning at 10 am and features dozens of local and regional artists, demonstrations and children's activities. If you're an early riser, head for Showers Plaza for the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market for something yummy to snack; Market begins at 8 am. If you're not an early riser, don't worry . . . Arts Fair continues throughout the day until 6 pm.
Beginning at 3 pm, you'll start to smell wonderful, mouthwatering aromas coming from the area that was home to Farmers' Market just a few hours before. Just a short walk from the courthouse square you'll find the annual Taste of Bloomington festival. Taste has got to be one of my favorite events of the year - mix together a variety of food from over 40 of B-town's best restaurants, incredible local wine and beer, throw in several hours worth of really great music and add a dash of fun children's activities . . . now that's a recipe for a great time! I enjoyed everything from duck to Japanese pan noodles to baklava at this year's event - even a little bit of rain couldn't spoil the fun!
