“Skyward”, Paintings by Gerard Erley at THe Venue
For the entire month of May, The Venue Fine Art & Gifts will host the feature Exhibition and Sale of paintings by Gerard Erley.
At The Venue, we usually identify our gallery walk artists in traditional ways: by attending art shows, fairs, other gallery visits, or through contacts. Sometimes however, there is a more unusual path, and here’s that story.
Last year we, (The Colman’s), had the pleasure of hosting Lemuel Watson, from South Carolina, as he interviewed for a position at Indiana University. From Lem we learned of his spouse, Gerard Earley, a painter. Jump ahead to this year and Lem is the new Dean of the Indiana University School of Education, and The Colman’s have discovered that our new friend, Gerard, happens to be one of the finest Artists painting in America today! Hence, this wonderful new “Skyword” opening at The Venue.
Gerard is an Illinois native now living in South Carolina and has had over two dozen solo exhibits throughout the United States. His award-winning artwork, selected for over 200 juried shows, resulted with him winning dozens of awards, most recently from The Metropolitan Museum of Art (in New York), The Carmel International Art Fair, and Penrod. Gerard’s work hangs in museums and galleries from New York to California, and can be found in museum, corporate and private collections both in the United States and abroad.
Gerard creates his imaginary landscapes in oil paint on canvas and panels. He rarely refers to photos or sketches, preferring to paint in the studio from memory and intuition. He is influenced by such 19th-century American and European painters as George Inness, Corot, and Turner. Like them, he seeks a sublime quality of light in his romantic landscapes.
Our regular collection of Fine Art and Gifts will also be on display, with some surprise extras, for viewing and purchase.
Join us to give both Gerard and Lem a big Bloomington Welcome.
