The City of Bloomington continues its year-long Bicentennial celebration with a Bicentennial Street Fair on Kirkwood Avenue from noon until 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 29. Kirkwood Avenue will be closed that day between Indiana Avenue and Walnut Street for the Fair.

This event is an opportunity to use Bloomington's city streets in new ways: To meet neighbors, find out more about local businesses and organizations, and celebrate Bloomington's history as well as its future. Participation is free, and open to the public. Kirkwood Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic during the Street Fair.

Blocks of Kirkwood Avenue have been "adopted" by local businesses and organizations for displays, activities, and highlights of historical events and significant achievements. Block Ambassadors include:

*Monroe County History Center-booths representing their Cemetery Committee, a contra dance group with performances, a Gentry horse-drawn wagon.

*Monroe County Public Library-performance stage with Kid Kazooey and by teens that work in the library's studio with readings and poetry. Booth spaces include crafts, ping pong, an opportunity to record "your story" and a green screen for pictures with historical photos as backgrounds

*Nick's English Hut-selling food outside

*Buskirk-Chumley Theater-celebrating the history of the theater with reenactments of moments in history

*Indiana Univeristy will be represented by the following: IU Archives, Sage Collection, Wylie House, Indiana Memorial Union, IU Athletics, IU Student Foundation with Little 500 bikes, IU Office of Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs, Calliope, ScienceFest, Army and Air Force ROTC and the IU Bicentennial

Additional activities:

Additional hands-on activities related to Bloomington's diversity, uniqueness, past and future will be present, staffed and run by community organizations that have expressed interest in being involved with the Street Fair.

The Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two additional stages on each end of Kirkwood for live performances by musical groups including the Bloomington Community Band, Hoosier Youth Philharmonic, and the Bloomington Peace Choir.

In addition to the many restaurants along Kirkwood Avenue, Street Fair visitors will find a delicious array of foods outside from several of the city's food trucks.

The City of Bloomington presents a 200th birthday party, complete with treats, in Peoples Park.
