BLEMF2021

Announcing the 2021 Bloomington Early Music Festival, with daily lectures and concerts offered May 9-16, 2021. In programming this year's festival, we are continuing our mission to expand the canon of western classical music.Throughout the festival we will feature music by women and BIPOC composers, Renaissance music from Guatemala, and masterpieces curated for female patrons. Festival programs will be accompanied by a pre-concert conversation. We will also be celebrating amazing venues around Bloomington who have generously hosted festival recording - The FAR Center, Dimension Mill, Switchyard Park Pavilion, and the Monroe County History Center.

We are fortunate to be a part of the vibrant Bloomington arts community and are thrilled to welcome local ensembles Las Aves, Forgotten Clefs and the Bloomington Bach Cantata Project back to the festival this year. The second half of the festival will feature two programs of music from the Guatemalan Manuscripts held by the IU Lilly Library, brought to us by the research of BLEMF board member Paul Borg. With the support of our festival partner the IU Latin American Music Center, we close the festival with a newly recorded program from Tembembe Ensamble Continuo, a world-renowned ensemble based in Mexico City.

This last year has been difficult for the arts community and we are so grateful to our supporters and artists for enthusiastically adapting to make BLEMF21 possible.
