The seventh annual Bloomington Pridefest, ranked by Thrillist in 2019 as the "Best College Town Pride," will move online this year. The streamed celebration will take place across three days, from Thursday, August 27 to Saturday, August 29, and include a vendor expo, as well as workshops with activists and experts, wellness activities, music performances, dance parties, and other live entertainment.

We made this difficult decision after weighing the considerable health risks caused by the novel coronavirus, the disease that causes COVID-19. LGBTQ+ individuals—particularly black, indigenous, and people of color, the elderly, and people with disabilities—are disproportionately affected by COVID-19 due to lack of access to adequate medical care, paid medical leave, and discrimination in health care settings.

For many, Pridefest is the one of the few opportunities to escape isolation and oppression and celebrate their lives and identities with a community that loves them for who they are. The 2019 festival saw more than 20,000 visitors across the day, and we could not, in good conscience, host an event of that size and scope in the midst of a global pandemic.

We are also working to schedule book discussions, ticketed pop-ups, film screenings, and other socially distant events to take place in July and August. Additional details will be announced in this event space.
