This event has been canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Please plan to experience this tour in June 2021.

Take a guided walking tour through Vinegar Hill, led by Jenny Southern, a Bloomington Historic Preservation Commission member and resident of the Elm Heights neighborhood.

Developed in the heyday of Indiana's limestone industry, 1912-1935, the Vinegar Hill area is a community treasure and exuberant expression of local craft and folk art within a residential setting. The same carvers responsible for buildings and churches across the U.S., built their own limestone homes with whimsical figures and portraits. It is the only neighborhood in Indiana where yard objects are identified as folk art and contribute to the historic significance of an area. Expect the tour to last about an hour and a half with up to 2 miles of walking.

Registration is required as space is limited to 20 participants. Reserve your spot today

The free tour will start at the intersection of First Street and Woodlawn Avenue. Public parking is available at the Bryan Park lot on Woodlawn Avenue, just a couple of blocks south of First Street.  There will be a lot of walking and standing so plan to wear appropriate shoes. This event will take place in light rain, but in the case of inclement weather, it will be cancelled and registrants will be notified up to an hour before start time.
