Jon Mueller, both solo and within ensemble, uses percussion outside of it's traditional rhythmic/backbeat approach and moves it to the foreground of the sound. This is present even in his earlier, more traditional "rock" bands like Pele or Collections of Colonies of Bees and more so in groups like Volcano Choir or Death Blues. Solo, Jon adds vocals to the palette, utilizing extended techniques practiced under the tutelage of Marian Zazeela and La Monte Young. Jon has also performed and recorded with artists including Daniel Menche, Rhys Chatam, Jarboe, James Plotkin, Duane Pitre and many others.

For this in-store performance, Jon will perform gongs and voice based on material from the recording 'Canto,' which will be released by SIGE Records in the spring of 2019. Jon has performed several times in Bloomington and each show, while always an immersive and full-body musical experience, has been different in terms of setup and sound. If you have had the pleasure of catching him in the past, you likely left feeling relaxed and mentally/spiritually refreshed.

While working together as Lather Sommer Duo, Adam Sommer and Ben Myers often built tension to a point of madness or terror, riding that wave and eventually crashing down in a terrific mess writhing about, stuck to the wall. As Psychic Eminence, the point is release, floating in the calm ocean with all airlocks open. The thick psychedelic haze still envelops, but for this project it is a blanket of comfort rather than the stress of storm.

This performance is part of an ongoing series of programs at Landlocked Music in 2019 through the help of the Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association Zone Arts Grant Program.
