Gather presents former Bloomingtonian, Jessi Klein with her debut show at Gather! We're so stoked to get to see these beautiful pieces in person, and'we're excited to share them with you for the month of April!
Jessi Klein is a Bloomington native, now living in SoBro. She is a full-time Development Officer for the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites and a soon-to-be Mom of 2 who loves to create in bold, bright colors. She gathers all her inspiration from her son, Cash, her amazing Husband, Mike and all the wonderful people she meets through her work.
Jessi’s first Bloomington Gallery Walk show was in October 2017 at Royale Hair Parlor: Maternal. A showcase of belly casts for expectant Mothers in the community. This collection, FACES, are paintings of people in her head: old friends, new acquaintances, disastrous people, inspirational beings, burnouts and clowns. All these FACES manifest themselves in paint through vivid colors swept quickly on blank canvas. All these FACES are hidden or in plain site.
She paints these FACES by approaching the canvas with music moving her through headphones or on deep vinyl spinning on the record player. She quickly uses a pallet knife with acrylic paint and then uses brushes for a light, soft background. As each layer dries, she adds more layers until the FACES are complete. Everyone has layers, they build overtime and Jessi loves discovering people like discovering the layers of paint as they unfold.
