Mayor John Hamilton invites the community to attend the 2022 City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration, Monday, Jan. 17 in the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 114 E. Kirkwood Ave. The celebration begins with a reception at 6 p.m. followed by the program at 7. The 7 p.m. event will include remarks by Hamilton, members of the MLK Commission, and others. The theme is "The Challenge of Action and the Challenges of Action" featuring keynote speaker Dr. Eddie Cole.

Musical and dance performers will include the Indiana University African American Choral Ensemble, directed by Dr. Raymond Wise, and Jacobs School of Music Ballet Department students and faculty. Volunteers who participated in "A Day ON! Not A Day Off" will be recognized, and the winner of the Commission's Legacy Award will be announced. The reception at 6 p.m. will feature light refreshments. Both the formal program and reception are free and open to the public.
