In celebration of Monroe County’s Bicentennial, Resilience presents The Stories of Monroe an original play that highlights significant incidents in Monroe County’s 200-year history. Hear stories of the people who made our county what it is today; stories of the Underground Railroad which ran directly thorough Bloomington; stories of slave-catchers on Bloomington’s Square who efforts were thwarted by local abolitionist black and white; stories of local folk heroes whose courage gave us the Bloomington we have come to know; and select stories of the internal strife and turmoil of the 60s and 70s that awaken the conscience of a community and forced it to confront issues of war and peace; equality and justice. These stories highlight the RESILIENCE of a people and their ability to critically examine their beliefs, traditions and customs in light of the changing world around them.
