The Birds

Based on a novelette by Daphne du Maurier, The Birds follows the blossoming relationship between socialite Melanie Daniels and lawyer Mitch Brenner. After a surprise second meeting in a pet store, where Mitch is hoping to purchase a pair of birds for his kid sister's birthday, Melanie visits Mitch's hometown (with gifted birds in tow). What ensues is the beginning of a new relationship, sparking with chemistry, as well as a series of mysterious and unexplainable attacks by flocks of ordinary birds on residents of the town.

The Birds was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Special Effects. In 2016, the film was selected by the National Film Preservation Board to be added to the United States National Film Registry.
