The Buskirk-Chumley Theater is pleased to welcome The Del McCoury Band, the most awarded bluegrass band of all time, to its stage! The group's most recent release, Streets of Baltimore, took home the 2013 Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album, adding to their 2006 Grammy win for The Company We Keep and over of thirty International Bluegrass Music Association Awards, including nine Entertainer Of The Year awards.

Although a bluegrass mainstay, The Del McCoury Band crosses genres and in 2016 will release a full-length CD of previously unrecorded, unreleased lyrics written by Woody Guthrie. These lyrics were given to McCoury by Guthrie with the intent that he compose music for them. Del continues to perform the tunes that fans love and enjoy like "Beauty of My Dreams," "My Love Will Not Change," "1952 Vincent Black Lightning," "Can't You Hear Me Callin'," and "High On A Mountain."

Del McCoury was first bitten by the bluegrass bug when he heard Earl Scruggs' banjo in the early 1950s. McCoury became a banjo picker himself, working in the rough but lively Baltimore and D.C. bar scenes into the early 1960s. He got his first taste of the limelight when he joined Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys in 1963. The Father of Bluegrass moved McCoury from the banjo to guitar, made him his lead singer, and gave him a lifetime's worth of bluegrass tutelage direct from the source.

In the years since, McCoury and his band have received numerous awards and nominations; performed with admirers including Alison Krauss, Phish, and Steve Earle; and have only had one change in membership in twenty years. McCoury's namesake festival, DelFest, has become one of the premier string band events in the country showcasing acts ranging from bluegrass legend Bobby Osborne to Phish's frontman Trey Anastasio.

Doors will open at 7:30pm for this reserved seating show. The opening performer has not yet been announced. Please check back soon for more information.
