The Human Library™

The Human Library™ is an event in which real people are on loan to the public. Individuals volunteer as “Human Books,” and participants become “Readers” during a 20-minute private chat with a Human Book. Designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue, it is an event in which difficult questions are expected, appreciated, and answered. Experiences are based around race, religion, sexual orientation, disability status, occupation, cultural background, age, gender orientation, ethnicity, social status, and/or lifestyle choices. Conversations take place in a safe and neutral space. Age 18 & up in the Monroe County Public Library Atrium and Meeting Room 1C.
