Join Lou Malcomb, member of the Monroe County History Center's Cemetery Committee, for an informative and educational guided walking tour of the limestone tombstones at Bloomington's Rose Hill Cemetery.

The original cemetery began around 1818-1820.  In 1892, the Ladies Cemetery Association, a civic committee, assumed management of the cemetery and named it Rose Hill for the wild and cultivated roses that were spread over the grounds.

Expect the tour to last about an hour and a half.  There is no fee to participate but registration is required, as space is limited.  Call the Bloomington Visitors Center (812-334-8900 or 800-800-0037) to register.  There will be a lot of walking and standing so make sure to dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.  Sunscreen and/or a hat may be a good idea.  Also consider bringing your own water.  The event will take place in light rain, but in the case of inclement weather, it will be rescheduled for Sunday, June 17 at 2:00pm.  Registrants will be notified up to an hour before start time via email of a reschedule.

Attendees will meet at the entrance of Rose Hill Cemetery.  Parking is available along West 4th Street and near the cemetery entrance.
