2012 Tourism Marketing Grant Winners

Categories: press releases

Bloomington, IN - Visit Bloomington has announced the winners of its tourism marketing grant funding for 2012. In its fourth year, the grant program will provide up to $30,000 to eight different organizations for events taking place throughout 2012. The grant was developed to help promote and enhance new and existing events through advertising, website development, and other methods geared at audiences outside a 50-mile radius of Monroe County. Each application was judged on a variety of criteria, including ability to draw attendees from outside Monroe County, ability to increase hotel occupancy, and placement of event during non-peak times of the year. Of the ten applications received, eight events scored high enough to receive funding for 2012. The winners are awarded funding based on their score in descending order and every attempt is made to allocate funding based on specific requests. The 2012 winners are:

1. Zero Hour Tango Festival, March 26-30, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater - $5000

2. Lotus World Music and Arts Festival, September 20-23, in Downtown Bloomington - $4000

3. Fourth Street Festival of the Arts & Crafts, September 1-2, on East Fourth Street - $4000

4. Bloomington Playwrights Project's To Die For Package, May 18- June 2, at the Bloomington Playwrights Project - $3500

6. Hillbilly Haiku Americana Music Series, September 2, at Upland Brewing Company - $2500

8. The Kinsey Institute's Juried Art Show, May 18- July 28, at the Grunwald Gallery - $1500

"We were thrilled to have another year of outstanding applicants. These eight events showed the capability to grow and bring in more overnight visitors to the area through new marketing projects. We are pleased to be able to provide grant funding to help supplement their marketing efforts and see more visitors in the community because of it," says Julie Warren, Director of Tourism at Visit Bloomington.
