Bloomington/Monroe County CVB
Goes After Faith Based Meetings Business

Bloomington – The Bloomington/Monroe County Convention and Visitors Bureau recently attended the Rejuvenate conference, held in Virginia Beach. The conference brings together destination sales professionals with meeting planners specializing in faith based meetings.

The CVB’s Convention Sales Manager, Erin Erdmann, met with over 20 meeting planners at the conference to discuss their individual meeting needs and offer suggestions as to how Bloomington could fulfill those needs. Planners were very receptive to considering Bloomington as a possible future meeting destination, citing the meeting facilities both on and off campus as appealing factors. Other characteristics of Bloomington that are attractive to this market include the central Midwestern location, the Indiana University campus, the natural beauty of the area and the friendly, welcoming atmosphere of the relatively small Bloomington community.

“I'm thrilled to be working with faith based meeting planners and have been very excited to show them what a wonderful community Bloomington is,” said Erdmann. “Since many of these planners haven't worked with us in the past it's also exciting to show them what types of services we offer and what we can do to ensure they have a successful event in our city.”

Erdmann returned from the Rejuvenate conference with requests from ten faith based meeting planners for the Bloomington/Monroe County CVB to submit a bid proposal to host future meetings. The CVB looks forward to working with more faith based meetings in the future and will also be attending the Religious Conference Management Association trade show to be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan in early 2009.

The Bloomington/Monroe County CVB’s mission is to maximize and grow economic impact of visitor dollars coming into Monroe County through various promotional efforts. Recruiting multiple day conventions is one of the most effective ways of realizing this mission as convention attendees spend on average more than $122 per day on lodging, food and other items when in Monroe County. Total economic impact for the area in 2007 for these types of events realized through the efforts of the CVB and their partners was in excess of $12 million.
