Bloomington to host Indiana Association

for Adult and Alternative Education Conference

Bloomington, Ind. – The Bloomington Convention and Visitors Bureau and Monroe County Community School Corporation Adult Education are proud to host the Indiana Association for Adult and Alternative Education (IAACE) Conference, April 8-9. The conference, themed ‘Solid as a Rock,’ will offer guidance on making changes in Indiana’s Adult Education programs at a time of regionalization and cutbacks, combined with a multitude of information, entertainment, honors and awards and even a little bit of fun.

The first time the IAACE conference was held in Bloomington, back in 1995, it broke all attendance records and garnered rave reviews from participants as well as earning honors for the Bloomington Convention Center. The event’s attendees will produce an estimated economic impact of $54,900 for the Bloomington community.

Bloomington CVB Convention Sales Director, Julie Warren is pleased to be welcoming the IAACE conference to the area again. “This is a very fun and creative group and they enjoy Bloomington’s culture so much during their two-and-a-half day event. The conference planning committee has done a remarkable job with the program, even creating a local theme. With education funding being such a critical issue these days, it’s important that these educators have an opportunity to network and learn in a supportive environment.”

Conference organizers are excited about meeting in Bloomington as well. “Neither chisels nor jackhammers, sledge-hammers nor claw hammers, will undo the work that is Adult Education, because we are truly ‘Solid as a Rock!’ In this, the year of the big U – uncertainty – with many already seeing drastic program changes, we’ll take what we have an build anew. Our foundation is strong, whether it be our professional organization or the individual programs that have helped make Indiana a national leader in meeting federal outcomes. NEVER has there been a more important time to attend the IAACE annual conference than now, when we need to hear what’s happening with the new three-year regionalization plans and how to change and update to post-secondary education transitions. The planning committee, ‘The Quarries,’ have put together a conference that will rock the professional world of Adult Education in Indiana, and there’ll be plenty of fun too!”
