Bloomington Welcomes the Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana

Firefighters from all over the state will converge on Bloomington for the
2008 Annual Convention, where several top political officials will
speak, including Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan.

Bloomington, Ind. – Bloomington is gearing up to host the 2008 Annual Convention for the Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana. The event will take place April 22-24 at the Hilton Garden Inn and will bring together up to 200 delegates from fire departments all over the state to discuss such topics as upcoming political initiatives, safety and health issues, emergency medical services, retirement and insurance programs and continuing education opportunities. The purpose of the event is to provide training and education to professional firefighters from across Indiana.

According to Jim Parrott, president of the Bloomington Metropolitan Firefighters Local 586, “We, along with the Bloomington Fire Department, are pleased to host the 2008 Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana state convention. Held annually at different locations throughout the state, the event was awarded to the City of Bloomington at last year’s convention. We feel this is a great opportunity to showcase the diversity of Bloomington to the delegates and bring business to our local merchants and we are looking forward to everyone welcoming our guests, as we will, to our fine city.”

The conference will feature addresses from several political figures, including Bloomington’s own Mayor Mark Kruzan. “It’s an honor for Bloomington to host the 2008 Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana state convention,” said Mayor Mark Kruzan. “I thank the City of Bloomington Fire Department and Firefighters Local 586 for their hard work and vigilance throughout the year and congratulate them for bringing this honor to our community. We welcome all the attendees to Bloomington and hope they enjoy their visit.”

This is the first time that this conference has been held in Bloomington and the Bloomington Convention and Visitors Bureau looks forward to showcasing the area to the attendees. Director of Convention Sales and Services Julie Warren believes that “this is a great conference for Bloomington. It’s an honor to our city and our local firefighters to act as host for this event. This is a fun group and they have incorporated some off-site events and free time into their schedule to allow attendees to explore the Bloomington area. We welcome them and hope they will enjoy spending time in our city.” The event is expected to bring an estimated economic impact of $73,200 to the Bloomington area.
