Bloomington Welcomes Several Conventions in May

Bloomington will welcome nearly 700 meeting and convention
attendees to the area during the month of May.

Bloomington – Another great month for meetings and conventions is under way in Bloomington. The National Society of Arts and Letters convention kicks off this week on the IU campus featuring several performances that are open to the public. The group’s objective is to encourage and assist promising young artists through arts competitions, scholarships and other career opportunities. The Bloomington Chapter is proud to serve as hosts for the 2008 National Convention and Voice Competition. Events have been planned to give visitors and the competitors not only a very successful competition but a good feel for what Indiana University and Bloomington have to offer in the way of cultural and entertainment activities and facilities. Competitive performances will be held at the Musical Arts Center and Auer Hall.

The Indiana Recycling Coalition will be meeting at the Bloomington Convention Center May 19-21. The IRC has met at the Bloomington Convention Center four of the last five years. They have enjoyed meeting in the downtown area and attendees are encouraged to explore the community. The CVB and Convention Center staffs have built a strong relationship with the IRC and its executive director, Michelle Cohen. All three organizations work together to make sure the needs of the attendees are met. The CVB has provided complimentary services to the IRC, including design and printing services, and donated items. This has added value to the conference and encouraged repeat business. They are a fantastic group to work with, bringing in 150 people mid-week and adding $36,600 to the local economy.

These are just two of several conventions coming to the Bloomington area this month. Each of these events brings visitors to the area and creates an impact on our local economy. The total economic impact of conventions scheduled for May is estimated at more than $242,130.The list below is limited to groups that have worked with the Bloomington CVB in planning their events.
