Tourism Industry Celebrated in Bloomington

Bloomington, IN - As part of a week-long program to celebrate the local tourism industry, the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention & Visitors Bureau hosted a reception on May 12 at The Bishop in downtown Bloomington.  The reception was attended by local tourism industry professionals and awards were presented to organizations and individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, initiative, and collaboration in the last year.  The 2011 winners are:

  • Best Restaurant or Bar- Finch's Brasserie
  • Best Attraction- WonderLab Museum of Science, Health & Technology
  • Best Festival or Event- Indiana Heritage Quilt Show
  • Best Lodging Property- Indiana Memorial Union
  • Tourism Partner of the Year- Sara Sheikh, Lennie's/BBC/Pizza X
  • Host of the Year- Stephanie Bartley- NIRCA 2010; Bloomingfoods- CCMA 2010
  • Front Line Employee of the Year- Pat Lacy, Kinsey Institute
  • Behind the Scenes Employee of the Year- Mike Moran, Indiana Memorial Union


The local tourism industry generates over $279 million in economic impact each year, bringing in over 1.2 million visitors annually and supporting nearly 4,000 jobs.  This important industry is made up of hotels, restaurants, museums, galleries, shops and a variety of other attractions.  Other activities that tourism professionals took part in include training on social media marketing and a tour of local attractions.  This national week of celebration allows local tourism organizations to educate, advocate for, network with and award their industry professionals.
