Turn This Into a Getaway...
Bring the entire family for a mini-vacation to explore the city that surrounds Indiana University. You will quickly find that Bloomington is a quintessential college town complete with event-filled sports weekends.
First thing first, you need to look like Hoosier head to toe. There are many places to get your cream & crimson, such as Tracks and TIS College Bookstore; but did you know you can get your gear inside Assembly Hall? There's no better place to get top of the line gear than The Varsity Shop located on the north lobby. They got you covered, there's everything from socks to hats and everything in between.
Looking for a place to grab a bite before you head to Simon Skjodt? Nick's English Hut is on just about every Hoosier's bucket list. It's hard to find a section of the restaurant that isn't adorned with the historic IU memorabilia. The decor isn't the only thing that makes this place a favorite, the food and drinks are excellent too (Sink the Biz, anyone?!). In the mood for wings? BuffaLouie's is the place! Located just steps from the Sample Gates, not only is their food top of the line (once ranked by USA Today as a Top Ten Wing Joint in the United States), but the atmosphere is the epitome of Hoosier Hospitality. On any given day, you can find the owner working alongside the staff taking orders, serving food, and greeting every customer personally. If you're more of a steak and potatoes kind of person then Janko's Little Zagreb's is for you. The iconic steakhouse in downtown Bloomington is known for many things including their amazing spicy meatballs, perfectly-grilled steaks, and laid back atmosphere.
If you're looking to lay your head near Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall check out the Biddle Hotel in the Indiana Memorial Union. The rooms are decorated with photos of campus and IU pillows. Added bonus? You are smack dab in the middle of campus. Graduate Bloomington is also a great option to put you in the Hoosier spirit. The hotel screams Bloomington and IU. As soon as you step into the lobby, you will pick up on the little details that only Hoosiers would understand.
