The first six murals in the History of IU series of murals were painted by Garo Antreasian, an artist and visiting instructor at the university. Antreasian and students used large scaffolds to paint on the canvas panels that were mounted on the walls of the Wright Quad Dining Hall in 1957. The seventh panel was painted by IU alumnus Mark Flickinger in 1998. The mural depicts the social history of Indiana University, designed to model the Thomas Hart Benton murals that depict the social history of Indiana.
