The Cedars Preserve
The Cedars Preserve offers an opportunity to simultaneously experience nature and Monroe County's rich limestone heritage. Named after the 20-acre grove of mature red cedars, this property was once a limestone quarry. A former owner of the quarry reportedly perished aboard the Titanic, and the quarry closed soon after. Limestone outcrops, sinkholes, a small wooden shed, and other remnants of the quarry can be seen from the trail. During, the spring, wildflowers make this preserve even more appealing. Owned by Sycamore Land Trust, The Cedars Preserve is open from dawn until dusk for outdoor recreation activities like hiking, birding, bird watching, wildlife observation, and nature photography.
