Experience one of Bloomington's most magical winter traditions.

Bring the entire family to downtown Bloomington to witness Santa flipping the switch to transform the area into a sparkling, winter wonderland. Thousands of lights display on and around the Monroe County Courthouse, turning the area into a scene from a Hallmark Christmas movie. Attendees can also enjoy:

  • Performances by several local music groups
  • Hot chocolate & festive snacks
  • Sing-along Christmas songs
  • Dropping off letters to Santa in the atrium of Fountain Square Mall

COVID-19 Protocols

The Canopy of Lights downtown lighting ceremony will follow state and local health department protocols. All Canopy of Lights activities will be outside. Masks are required indoors for those visiting any local businesses during the event. To help with social distancing and reduce indoor crowds, the Monroe County Courthouse will be closed, and activities will not take place inside Fountain Square Mall as they have in the past. Although the current mask ordinance does not apply to outdoor events, masks are encouraged for those who cannot stay distanced and are in a large group of people. The lighting ceremony will begin at 6:45 pm with Santa's welcome, and he will countdown to the official lighting promptly at 7:00 pm.
