Limestone History Exhibit

Location: Monroe County History Center
Admission: Adults $2, Kids 6-17: $1, Children 5 & under: FREE

Enjoy the revamped limestone history exhibit inside the Monroe County History Center, featuring the work of prolific carver Enrico "Harry" Liva.

 

Campus Limestone Walking Tour

Time: Saturday, May 31, Tuesday, June 10, Saturday, July 12, and Tuesday, July 15
Location: All tours will start at the Sample Gates
Admission: Free

Explore the unique limestone architecture of the beautiful Indiana University campus with a walking tour. You'll be amazed at the styles, techniques and artistry represented on campus. All tours begin at the Sample Gates (at the corner of Kirkwood and Indiana Avenues) and cover approximately 1 mile along an accessible route. No registration is required. Tours will happen rain or shine, unless there is thunder. Please check for weather updates on their Facebook page.

Tuesday, June 10: Todd Schnatzmeyer, Executive Director of Indiana Limestone Institute, presents "Contemporary Indiana Limestone."

Thursday, June 12: Polly Root Sturgeon with the Indiana Geology and Water Survey presents "The Unique Geological Features that Created the Limestone Industry."

 

Indiana Limestone Symposium Open House

Walk the site of the Indiana Limestone Symposium and interact with artists and carvers during this special open house.

 

Headstone Restoration Workshop Rose Hill Cemetery 

Date: Saturday, June 28
Time: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Location: Rose Hill Cemetery 
Admission: Free

Join the Monroe County History Center Cemetery Committee and the Prospect Hill Neighborhood Association to learn the basics of headstone cleaning and repair! Each workshop is from 10 am until 2 pm. Drop in or out anytime. Wear outdoor work clothes, bring work gloves, and knee pads (if you’d like). Please bring your own water and snacks.

 

Historic Vinegar Hill Walking Tour

Date: Saturday, June 28
Time: 11:00 AM-12:00 PM
Location: Tour starts at East 1st Street and South Woodlawn Avenue
Admission: Free

Join members of the Historic Preservation Commission for a walking tour of houses located in the Vinegar Hill Limestone Historic District. No registration required.
