Memorial Day Round-Up

Food Truck Friday 

Location: Switchyard Park

Date: Friday, May 23

Cost: No admission, cost of food/beverage

Grab some delicious, locally-made food, enjoy the amenities at Switchyard Park, and experience live music & performances from local artists.  Upland Brewing Company will have a beer garden every week from 5:00-8:30 PM.

 

13th USA International Harp Competition 

Location: Varies

Date: Friday, May 23 - Saturday, May 24 (final days)

Time: Friday - 8:00 PM at Buskirk Chumley Theater (fee charged)  &  Saturday - 7:00 PM at Musical Arts Center 

Cost: Most events FREE unless noted on schedule

Founded in 1989 by Susann McDonald, the USAIHC is known as the foremost solo harp competition in the world. The 13th Competition is open to harpists of all nationalities between the ages of 18 and 32. All repertoire must be performed from memory (with the exception of the 8th USAIHC Ruth Inglefield Composition Contest winning work in Stage III).  Competition date May 14-24.

 
Josh Burton Memorial

Location: Bloomington Speedway

Time: Pits Open 4:00 PM, Gates Open 5:00 PM, Hot Laps 6:30 PM, Racing Starts 7:30 PM

Cost: $15.00 per ticket for adult general admission, 12 & under free. Pit Pass: $30.00, 12 & under $15.00.

The Historic Bloomington Speedway will kick off its first Ticket to Tulsa night with the Josh Burton Memorial. The Ford Performance Driving School Sprints will be accompanied by the IMCA Huntley Winged Series, and the Tex-a-Con UMP Super Stocks.

 

WonderLab Science Museum: Animal Hour

Location: WonderLab

Date: Friday, May 23  

Time: 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Cost: Free with admission to museum 

Talk with our animal exhibits staff directly to learn about WonderLab’s animal ambassadors and what it takes to care for animals from around the world. During this program you can have the opportunity to meet snakes, lizards, insects, arachnids and more up close and out of their habitats. Recommended for families or groups with children of all ages. This program is free with museum admission.

 
Saturday Crafternoon at the Wylie House Museum

Make Pocket Flower Presses during Saturday Crafternoons! The Wylie family regularly pressed flowers and sent the specimens to one another as keepsakes. Keep this tradition blooming by making your own Pocket Flower Press to preserve the beauty of nature, one plant at a time!

WonderLab Science Museum: STEM Saturday

Location: WonderLab

Cost: Free with admission to museum 

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Saturdays are designed to provide engaging hands-on activities aimed at inspiring interest in STEM subjects and make learning both hands-on and fun. Focus will be on M for Maker. STEM Saturday is designed for ages 5-17, but we encourage adults and children to work together so that they can learn together!  This program is free with museum admission.

 

Ellettsville Summer Concert Series: Jenn Christy Band

The Town of Ellettsville is please to announce a new Summer Concert Series. The kick-off concert will feature Jenn Christy Band playing retro pop hits. Food trucks will be onsite.

Early Music in the African Diaspora bears witness to the skill, determination, passion and faith of Black musicians of the Renaissance through the 19th century, all of which shine brilliantly through every performance—from sacred music to folk song, sonata to spiritual.
