Created in 1963 by the Army Corps of Engineers and operated by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Monroe Lake contains over 10,700 acres of water and is partially surrounded by several thousand acres of Hoosier National Forest lands. Monroe Lake is home to several fishing tournaments throughout the year. Sectioned into idle and speed zones, the lake is ideal for rowing, triathlons or endurance events and adventure races. Several sailing regattas are also held at the lake each year.
Monroe Lake is also known locally as Lake Monroe and Monroe Reservoir.
