Created by William T. Dahman in 1979 from Indiana limestone, the Peace Memorial stands on the south west side of the Monroe County Courthouse lawn. One of the few such sculptures in the country, the official title of the piece is "congregations for Peace." An inscription on the sculpture reads "Blessed are the peace-makers, for they will be called children of God."
