The east side of Simon Hall features Indiana limestone carvings of six organisms commonly used in research, linked by complex strands of letters - the code for sequences of genetic material. The carvings were designed in 2007 by local Bloomington sculptor and stone carver Amy Brier, and depict the following organisms: E. coli bacterium, mushroom, fruit fly, mouse, ear of maize and paramecium.
