Switchyard Park, formerly known as the McDoel Switchyard, is located at 1601 S. Rogers St. in Bloomington. Although construction in Switchyard Park began in 2018, and the park was officially unveiled to the public in November 2019, its genesis was as early as 1995, when CSX Railroad announced their plans to cease their railroad operations in Bloomington. Admission to Switchyard Park and all its amenities is free, and the park is open daily from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. The park is 57.2 acres and contains the following amenities: •Paved, accessible B-Line Trail, one mile of which runs through Switchyard Park •Basketball, pickleball and bocce ball courts (bring your own sports equipment) •Community gardens with 39 raised beds (32 sq ft each) available for rent by the public (rental fee applies) •Concrete skate park •Fitness stations •Reservable picnic shelter, two available sides with 1,800 sq. ft. per side (rental fee applies) •11,000 sq. ft. Pavilion with overhead doors for indoor/outdoor meeting or festival space (rental fee applies) •Amphitheater with lawn space, plus room for food trucks and a mobile stage (rental fee applies) •Shaded bosque with movable bistro tables and chairs •Splash pad •Playground •Main stage and performance lawn with room for up to 5,000 people (rental fee applies) •Dog park •Bloomington Police Department Substation
