Categories: press releases
Bloomington, IN - the 2014 Labor Day Weekend in Bloomington will be filled with special events and special hotel deals, making it an ideal getaway when combined with the local restaurants, wineries, breweries and attractions. Major events include art and music festivals, and an Indiana University football game.
On Friday, August 29th, 2014, the weekend starts off with local food and craft beer at the Hillbilly Haiku festival held at the Upland Brewery Company. This year's headliner is Murder by Death, a five-piece band formed in Bloomington that blends rock, Americana noir and post-punk styles. Opening acts include Lydia Loveless and the Kopecky Family Band.
Enjoy local and regional art and music on Saturday, August 30th and Sunday, August 31st with the 38th annual Fourth Street Festival of the Arts and Crafts and the third annual Community Art Fair and Garlic Fest, both starting at 10am. Artists from around the region will have their work available for purchase at the Fourth Street Festival, located in the heart of downtown Bloomington and local restaurants. The Community Art Fair and Garlic Fest will feature all local artists and musicians, as well as local restaurants selling garlic-themed food items.
On Saturday, August 30th, the Indiana University football season kicks off against Indiana State for their first home game at 12pm. Families and alumni can enjoy a lively tailgate scene before cheering on the Hoosiers as they battle the Sycamores.
Also on Saturday, August 30th is the second annual Makevention, a showcase of "makers" from the area who create new art or products from unwanted or unused materials. The show will inspire attendees to rethink what is useful and what isn't, and find new ways to recycle old products. The event takes place at the Bloomington Convention Center at 10am.
Special Labor Day Weekend hotel rates are available at various hotels for a limited time, providing another reason to spend the long holiday weekend in Bloomington.
